Non-Human Identity (NHI)
Any identity that isn't a person — a device, a software workload, or an AI agent — now far outnumbering human identities in a typical organization.

Non-human identities split into three broad shapes: device identity (a specific piece of hardware, verified by certificate or posture), workload identity (a running service, ideally using short-lived tokens instead of static API keys), and AI agent identity (an autonomous or semi-autonomous agent, which needs the same scoping and audit trail as any other identity — arguably more, since it acts without a human in the loop on every step).
