Identity
Anything — human or machine — that authenticates against a system in order to act on it.
aka: principal, subject
An identity is the actor in any access decision. It can represent a person, a workload, a service account, or another system. Every identity needs credentials to prove itself and is bound to a scope of entitlements that controls what it may do once authenticated.
